In Loving Memory of Maddie Stenger
(March 10, 2009 – December 25, 2024)
Maddie, our beloved family dog, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning at the age of 15. Born on March 10, 2009, Maddie joined our family after years of my brother and me begging our mom for a dog. A person at our church finally convinced her that it would be a great way to teach us responsibility, and that’s how Maddie came into our lives.
From the moment Maddie came home, she became the heart of our family. She was the sweetest, most gentle soul—as my mom’s boyfriend would say, “she didn’t have a mean bone in her body.” Even as she aged, Maddie still loved going on walks and running around like a puppy.
While Maddie started as the family dog, she quickly became my mom’s constant companion when my brother and I left home. The bond they shared was unmatched. Maddie was spoiled rotten and loved every moment of it. Their favorite times were spent walking to the park together. In a touching moment that showed the depth of her devotion, Maddie got out one day while my mom was in the hospital and went to the park, searching for her. My mom lovingly called her “Chew.”
After my mom passed away in late June, I took over Maddie’s care. She became my shadow and my baby in her final six months. We spent countless hours snuggling, shopping, and walking together. Maddie trusted me completely, and her gentle, loving nature brought so much comfort during a difficult time.
Oh, Maddie, you were so deeply loved by everyone who knew you. We miss you every single day, sweet girl. It brings us comfort to think that Mom wanted you home for Christmas.
Rest easy, Maddie—our Madeline, Mad Dog, and forever “Chew.” You will always be in our hearts.
